We are quite flexible and how we work will depend on what the project is, who it is for and what the deliverables are. Most of the time however we work using one of the following arrangements:
Illusion Design Projects
More often than not, we work on a project basis. This means that we have established the scope of the project by deciding what needs to be done and how it will be delivered and attached a price to it based on the estimated number of hours that the project will take. Project pricing can vary depending on what we're creating, whether we're working with existing concepts or coming up with something entirely new, the level of detail required in building plans, whether or not 3D images or animation are required etc.
Getting all of this information nailed down however is easier than it sounds and we're here to help. Most often, a client will buy some consulting hours for us to help them flesh out what the show itself will be before identifying individual pieces or projects within it. Once you have a solid framework, filling in the spaces gets easy.
Magic Consulting Hours
Many of our clients like to buy hours in bulk to be used when they need it. These are usually for mini projects outside of a larger design project. They are also often used for ramping up to a design project, or to help identify what that will be. This includes things like helping you put the show together, choosing pieces, working with you on your scripts and patter, routining and plots and much more. For theatre, it's often used for general magic or effects advice on other projects outside of a given show.
Ad Hoc Magic Consulting
Similar to the above, we have a set hourly rate for Ad Hoc consulting. If you don't wish to pre-buy hours, we can bill clients only for the time that has been used. We do this on an hourly rate and only charge the time used. We don’t round 45 minutes of work up to an hour. 45 minutes is 45 minutes.
Contracts
We like to get everything in writing for both our sake so that everyone knows what we’re doing and what’s been accounted for. The last thing we would want to have to do is send an invoice that you weren’t expecting or have to worry about what’s included in a project. We like to get everything on the surface, that way we get the business elements clear and taken care of so that we can focus on the creative side of putting together a strong piece of entertainment. When we’re working on General Magic Consulting, we typically quote the number of hours before anything time intensive gets done.
How Do I Get Started?
Call or email us and we'll be happy to answer all of your questions. We won't charge you for this conversation (that would be silly) and we would be happy to talk through your project to help establish the best way to work. We're friendly, fast and we love to do good work!
